The first Nativity Scene Competition was held in Kraków in 1937 on the initiative of Dr Jerzy Dobrzycki who for many years headed the Historical Museum of the City of Krakow. Since that time, the competition has been organised every year (with one break during WWII). The Historical Museum of the City of Krakow has been overseeing the competition since 1945.
